Environmental
We provide comprehensive in-house ground investigation and contamination assessment services. Our understanding of construction allows our ground investigations to best target the information needed to aid efficient design and mitigate risk. We help clients understand and manage environmental risks associated with their sites and projects.
Capabilities
Our service offer is structured around the practical decisions clients need to make at each stage of a project.
Phase 1 Desktop Study
The initial stage of ground investigation, combining a desktop study and site walkover to establish geology, hydrology, history and environmental setting, and identify potential contamination early.
Phase 2 Ground Investigation
Intrusive site investigation giving a site-specific contamination risk assessment and/or geotechnical investigation to inform remedial measures, foundation design, soakaway feasibility and concrete classification.
Geotechnical & Geo-environmental Investigations
All types of site investigation, Phase 1 and Phase 2, using test pits, window samples or boreholes, with infiltration testing for SuDS and a full geotechnical and geo-environmental report.
Trial / Test Pits
Excavations, usually 1 to 4 metres deep by hand or machine, to study the subsurface and confirm geology and groundwater conditions before construction.
Window Sampling
A technique to bore through shallow soft soils to profile ground conditions and take samples for chemical and geotechnical analysis, and to install gas and groundwater monitoring wells.
Contamination Testing
Testing required for planning approval, land purchase due diligence, after pollution incidents, for waste classification, or for site condition and verification reports.
Ground Gas Monitoring
Monitoring of methane, carbon dioxide, oxygen and other ground gases to determine whether gas protection measures are needed for the development.
Rotary Boreholes
Rotary drilling to form deep observation boreholes and obtain representative samples of rock.
Soakaway Test (Soil Percolation)
Infiltration or percolation tests to determine whether the ground is suitable for soakaways, usually required by the lead local flood authority to support planning.
