Huntingdon Methodist Church has gone through a major redevelopment by adding a large extension which includes a new entrance lobby, a multi purpose open space, enlarged kitchen, toilets and a meeting room.

PRP undertook an extensive range of civil and structural engineering services on this unique project.  With the variable nature of the ground and fill material encountered, a raft slab solution was adopted.  The tying in of the slab to the existing church structure was problematic; we had to detail the slab to infill around piers and other obstructions within the footprint.

The superstructure was constructed of a lightweight steel frame with a grand glazed entrance, PRP provided individual design for each frame as a regular grid was not achievable, bespoke solutions were adopted to ensure the lateral stability of the scheme.

PRP were instructed to design the attenuation tank for the surface water discharge into the main sewer.  We negotiated a suitable discharge rate with the water authority to ensure flooding would not occur on site with an attenuation tank, which would adequately fit to site constraints.

PRP also acted as principal designer on the project to ensure compliance with the CDM Regulations throughout the build helping to ensure safety during the construction phase but also with the associated long term maintenance.

The works were also notifiable under the Party Wall etc Act 1996 and PRP were the appointed party wall surveyors, negotiating an award with the adjoining owners in relation to constructing up to the boundary between the two properties.
