Many party wall matters are simple and straightforward, but occasionally work on or near a boundary or party wall can become complex and difficult. This especially can happen if the right approach is not adopted at the outset. The Party Wall Act provides of buildings with certain new rights and obligations to other, adjacent, owners in relation to party walls and similar structures. It lays down strict procedures for the resolution of disputes and provides for the appointment of one or more surveyors with wide powers to sort out problems.

• Serving the necessary notices on adjacent building owners
• Dealing with any counter notices and disputes arising

• Acting as third surveyor when two other surveyors cannot agree on the resolution of a dispute
