Engineering Design

Civil Engineering

CAD systems in our own offices provide the capability to design and detail earthworks, roads, foul-water drainage, and storm-water drainage. Importantly the last includes for designing in accordance the principles of Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS)including infiltration and flow balancing systems.
We are fully conversant with the statutory procedures required for approval of road and drainage schemes for adoption and deal on a regular basis with the Environment Agency, Water Authorities, and County Highways Authorities.

Design of earthworks including cuttings, embankments, land drainage, and slope stability form an essential part of civils design, and again we have considerable experience in these matters.

Structural Engineering

We have the capability and experience to design in any structural material, notably...

• Reinforced concrete
• Steel
• Masonry (brick, block, stone)
• Timber
• Aluminium

Similarly, any type of structure including...

• Bridges
• Masts and towers
• Tanks and silos
• Retaining walls
• Building frames (low rise, high rise)
• Temporary works
• Building alterations
• Foundations
• Remedial works

Where appropriate CAD systems are employed to analyse structures in two and three dimensions. All design work is closely supervised and directed by our experienced Chartered Engineers. Output is in the form of written calculations and detailed working drawings.

Liaison with Architects and other professionals (where appointed) is an important part of the design process ensuring that a properly co-ordinated design is achieved. Building regulation applications are dealt with as a matter of course and, where appropriate (particularly if no Architect is involved) we will obtain the necessary planning and listed building consents.

In the early stages of a project, feasibility studies, budget costings, and concept designs can be provided.
